1. What infectious diseases can mosquitoes spread?

Mosquitoes can spread malaria, Japanese encephalitis, yellow fever, dengue fever, chikungunya fever, Zika virus disease and many other diseases. Among them, Zika virus disease is mainly spread by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus.

2. How do households prevent and control mosquitoes?

Household mosquito control can be achieved through comprehensive physical and chemical methods. While removing stagnant water, installing screen doors and windows, and using electric mosquito swatters to kill mosquitoes, mosquito coils and insecticide aerosols can be used to repel and kill mosquitoes. For stagnant water that cannot be removed, mosquito larvae killers can be used.

2.1. Install screen doors and windows

Rooms can be installed with screen doors and windows to prevent mosquitoes from entering directly. During the high-incidence period, the screen windows can be coated with residual spray insecticides for better results. Use mosquito nets during rest to reduce human-mosquito contact.

2.2. Eliminate breeding grounds

Residents should thoroughly change the water in vases and water-grown plants at least once a week. The water in air conditioner trays and flower pot bottom saucers (trays) should be thoroughly cleaned, and lids should be covered if there are any. Check the floor drains in the bathroom and kitchen every week or replace them with safe floor drains with anti-seepage functions, keep the floor drains free of water, and spray insecticides frequently to prevent mosquitoes from living. Trash cans should be covered.

2.3.Correct use of various types of sanitary insecticides:

You can use mosquito coils, follow the instructions to repel and kill mosquitoes, and place the mosquito coils in a ventilated place upwind. You can also use insecticide aerosols to kill mosquitoes. When using insecticide aerosols, try not to spray directly on clothing, sheets, furniture, and skin. Store food and tableware before spraying. After spraying, it is best to close doors and windows for half an hour to an hour, and then open windows for ventilation. Excessive spraying of insecticide aerosols will be toxic to the human body, so you must pay attention to safety when using insecticide aerosols at home. Do not let infants and young children come into contact with them. If the liquid is accidentally sprayed on the skin, it must be washed in time.

3. How do enterprises, institutions and communities prevent and control mosquitoes?

Treatment of breeding grounds is an important basis for mosquito prevention and control, and it is necessary to carry out extensive sanitation activities to remove mosquito breeding grounds. On the basis of comprehensive management of breeding grounds, various biological and chemical pesticides should be used reasonably.

3.1.Removal of breeding grounds:

mainly includes the removal of various waste and debris, and thorough cleaning of all bottles, buckets, basins and other containers that may accumulate water in front of and behind the house, and storing empty containers upside down to prevent mosquito breeding. Various community outdoor landscape water bodies such as bonsai, fountains, and fish ponds should be fully cleaned of garbage and floating objects, and the water should be changed frequently. It is necessary to regularly dredge ditches and manholes in the community, keep the drainage ditches free of water, seal the wells, use mosquito-proof stickers on the manhole covers, regularly check the basement, and remove the accumulated water in time to prevent mosquito breeding. It is necessary to regularly dredge the drainage holes and pipes on the roofs of residential buildings, etc., and they should be cleared in time after rain to avoid water accumulation.

3.2.Biological control

Fountains, pools and other large water bodies that cannot be discharged can use biological mosquito control methods, such as raising fish species that can swallow mosquito larvae, such as willow fish, goldfish, carp, carp and crucian carp, Chinese fighting fish, African crucian carp, etc., to achieve the purpose of mosquito control. Biological mosquito larvae killers such as Bacillus thuringiensis(As shown below) or Bacillus sphaericus can also be used.

3.3.Chemical control

Under the guidance of professional technicians, residual spraying is carried out on key areas to kill adult mosquitoes. For stagnant water or water bodies that cannot be removed, wells, sewers, fountains and other outdoor landscape water bodies that cannot be sealed, mosquito larvae killers are placed to kill mosquito larvae. For places with high adult mosquito density, ultra-low volume spray or hot smoke can be used for space spray treatment during the peak activity time of adult mosquitoes to quickly kill adult mosquitoes.Recommended drugs: beta-cypermethrin, permethrin, d-allethrin, tetramethrin and d-phenothrin, etc.
