Product Focus: NicoSnail™ 70 WP
1) What it is & where it fits
NicoSnail™ 70 WP contains Niclosamide (CAS No. 50-65-7) at 70% w/w in a Wettable Powder (WP) formulation.
Niclosamide is a well-established molluscicide historically used both in public-health snail-control programs (e.g., freshwater snail hosts of schistosome parasites) and in agricultural use where snails such as the golden apple snail attack seedlings and young crops.
Typical public-health specifications describe niclosamide formulations as 70% wettable powder for mollusciciding in/around water bodies.
2) Mode of Action
Niclosamide acts as a molluscicide with respiratory/stomach action: exposed snails absorb/contact the active substance in the treated water film or treated surface, and the result is disruption of normal respiration/energy processes leading to mortality.
In practical crop-protection language: it works best when snails are active in shallow, manageable water and the treated water layer is kept stable for a defined contact period (do not flush/drain immediately).

Common field guidance for 70% WP in rice emphasizes: level the field well, bring water to a shallow, uniform depth (commonly ~2–3 cm) so snails congregate near the surface, then apply evenly—and hold the water afterward so the molluscicide maintains contact.
4) Application & water-management guidance
(adjust if your country’s differs.)
-
Level the field as smoothly as possible; uneven spots cause poor coverage and “safe pockets” for snails.
-
Irrigate to shallow depth (many programs use ~2–3 cm) before application so snails move into the shallow layer.
-
Prepare the WP suspension in clean water following your label’s dilution/spreading method; keep agitation so the wettable powder stays uniformly suspended.
-
Apply evenly across the surface (knapsack/boom/spreader method per your label).
-
Maintain treated water for the required contact period:
-
Avoid immediate drainage, heavy inflow, or outflow that dilutes the treated layer.
-
Practical guides for 70% WP stress: if water depth is >3 cm or heavy rain is expected, make provisions to maintain effective concentration and avoid premature drain-out.
5) Key safety & environmental precautions
Niclosamide is highly toxic to fish and many aquatic organisms.
-
Keep out of aquaculture ponds, rivers, streams, lakes, irrigation canals that contain fish/wildlife.
-
Do not clean sprayers or dispose of rinse water into drains/water bodies.
-
Follow national/local buffer zones and restrictions for aquatic life exactly as written on your registered label.
